This program will present an evolving timeline of regulations, laws and requirements following the formalization of the housing and lending markets beginning in the first quarter of the 20th century and evolving into the modern-day practices of home buying and financing. It will focus on the need for consumer protections and non-discriminatory parity throughout the process. The course will discuss federal, state and local jurisdictional protections for housing opportunities as well as borrowing/financing protections and guidelines. The role of the appraiser in valuation as an equitable, defensible opinion of value will be examined.

Ethical Business Practices in the modern-day technology driven real estate industry, including issues of accuracy and validity of information portrayed through social media and other marketing platforms, the emergence of shared and private multiple listing systems, inventory shortages, sky-rocketing market value increases affecting valuation and appraisal practices, as well as other areas of concern generated by fast-paced housing and rental markets.

Recent Legal Matters will be selected from a variety of cutting-edge topics in real estate practice, and other contemporary issues.
